Based on Hannah Arendt’s ideas, my presentation discusses the effects of exponential technological expansion on the preservation and legitimacy of so-called “factual truths.” I consider the impact of the “information society” on preserving memory, given that the current technological paradigm has presented us with technology as a complete reformulator of memory artefacts. My analysis aims to understand the impacts of a paradigm in which memories sound immune to temporality, and why the so-called digital memory therefore establishes itself as a preservation standard. Hence, I argue that the theme of digital preservation of factual truths emerges from the same dominance of the electronic medium in everyday practices.
